Common dispatch pricing models
These are general industry references, not Big Sky quotes or confirmed fees. Percentage pricing is often 5%–10%, sometimes more for high-risk operations. Illustrative, not fixed, tiers: 5%–6% for multi-truck fleets/consistent volume, 7%–8% for owner-operators/small fleets, and 9%–10% for new authority, hotshot, or higher-risk operations. Ask whether the fee applies to linehaul only or total gross, and confirm in writing how fuel surcharge and accessorials are treated. Flat weekly fees are often $300–$650 per week per truck depending on scope, and may best fit dedicated or consistent lanes, predictable weekly cadence, clear operating preferences, regions and home time, and consistent cost budgeting. Ask about load minimums, minimum weekly revenue, and support boundaries. Hybrid example: a steady base covers workload while a smaller percentage rewards performance, which can stabilize cost, encourage proactive negotiation, and suit growth-oriented carriers; no amounts are implied. Best when KPIs such as RPM targets, weekly gross targets, and documentation standards are defined. Avoid unwritten scope (who does what), missing documentation standards, or a performance percentage tied to an unclear gross definition. Confirm negotiation, broker vetting, accessorial recovery, and paperwork scope. Guaranteed RPM promises without written constraints are a red flag. Also ask about weekly load volume, negotiation inclusion, paperwork boundaries, after-hours/check-call expectations, setup/upfront fees, and chargeback/dispute handling. Big Sky’s actual fees and service terms are discussed directly with each carrier.
